I gave this story 4.5, only because I still feel a little brain scattered after finishing this book.
This is Lowen's story. Lowen, an author has been dealt her fair share of bad luck, her mother just passed away, she's currently being evicted and she doesn't have much money coming in.
Thinking today is a new day, she heads out for a meeting, hoping that this is going to be the day things turn around for her....unfortunately, standing beside a guy who walks out in front of a bus, splattering blood all over her, is just the start to her morning. In shock, she walks away from the sight, not believing what just happened, when a gentleman asks if she's okay. Clearly shook up, she allows this stranger to help her, following into the bathroom, she washes her face, trying to get the blood off, and the gentleman hands her his shirt. The shirt off his back, how romantic!!!! Though its a few sizes too big, she puts it on, ties it, thanks the nice man and they head opposite directions.
During the meeting, she sees none other than the nice gentleman that saved her this morning, by giving her his shirt. What are the odds?
Jeremy Crawford, the husband to the Best Selling Author Verity Crawford, has this meeting, hoping that Lowen will write the remaining novels of Verity's best selling series. Lowen learns that Verity was in a car accident and is unable to write the novels herself, but they do not want the world to know the status of her health at the moment.
After a brief conversation with Jeremy, Lowen agrees. She will be heading to the Crawford estate and staying a few days to go through Verity's office and notes/outlines to figure out what direction she is going to go with for the upcoming novels. This comes at a great time, considering she has no place to live in the next few days.
The estate is huge, Jeremy is so nice, and handsome, and their son is adorable. Lowen learned that the twin daughters both passed a few months ago.
Lowen gets started on Verity's office and box upon box, she doesn't quite find what she's looking for, until she finds a memoir of Verity's. Deciding she needs to take a peak, she is stunned at what she is reading.
Verity doesn't take, and has a nurse to take care of her, but Lowen feels she is being watched, and things happen that make Lowen question everything.
The longer she stays in this house, the more she's falling for the sexy Jeremy, but how much longer can she stand the craziness in this house?
From reading more and more into Verity's book, the more Lowen feels this unsure about Verity.
When things come to a head, the truth comes out, but who will be left standing at the end?
I will be honest, the ending through me so much that even now, I'm not sure what to think or believe. It was a great book and I couldn't put it down, but man did it through me through the ringer.
