4 Beautiful stars!
This was a sweet story between Shane and Jenn.
Jenn has never measured up to her older sister, and how could she, especially when her family always gives into her sister, Gail. No one even seems to care when Gail steals Jenn's fiance and starts planning her own wedding. Jenn doesn't know how much more she can take. Her relationship with her parents isn't strong and at work as hard as she works to get the promotion she wants, she's still a glorified assistant. She is ready to let everything behind her, ready to be gone, unfortunately someone finds the note she wrote and doesn't realize it's Jenn's note.
Shane has had his ups and downs, he grew up with just his mom after his father left until tragedy struck. Shane ended up growing up with his cousin Jake, who just happens to be one of Jenn's bosses. Being deployed hasn't been easy for Shane, especially since he found out that his fiance has left him and is now married to another man, living in his house, with his dog.
When Shane sees Jenn by the bridge his instincts kick in to help her, thinking something must be wrong, especially because the day also happens to be her birthday. Spending the day with her has been one of the best days for both of them and soon they start spending day after day together. Unfortunately, taking turns delving information about one another isn't always so easy.
The closer Shane and Jenn become, the harder it is for him to leave. He has to go back to war and for the first time, there's something in him that's changed. The struggle is real and both need to deal with reality. For Shane it's letting someone else in and to still be there for him when he comes back, and for Jenn it's that she has to learn to move forward from her past, which isn't easy considering her sister is getting married to her ex-fiance at the spot where she had planned to get married. Crazy.
There are ups and downs and such sweet gestures that will make it hard to put this book down. It's definitely a must read!
