3.5 stars.
I wanted to give this book more stars I just can't. I loved the story line, but I honestly could not stand Sophie.
Sophie lost her mom and her dad fell down the rabbit hole. With moving to his old hometown into an old, haunted house, Sophie just wants a new beginning.
Unfortunately, the only person that is nice to Sophie at school is a guy named Garver. Garver has had his own fair share of bad luck, and sometimes things seem to only get worse. The one thing that seems to lighten his mood is Sophie and the more they hang out the more he is drawn to her.
One of the main issues between Garver and Sophie is his lack of communication about his past. He wants to let the past there and move forward, looking toward the future, but Sophie can't help but want to know his past, which tends to drive a wedge between them.
She feels her house is haunted and has Garver check it out, it finally gets to the point where he says she needs to tell her father and she does, what she doesn't expect is for the cops to be called and for things to surface, realizing things are much worse than she ever could have imagined.
With her boyfriend and her father, she trusts and feels safe with these two men, but can they protect her at all costs?
I thought the story line was wonderful, I just hated how quickly Sophie would turn on Garver, he had done nothing but show her how he was there for her and every time something happened she would turn on him, breaking up with him, thinking and fearing the worst, blaming him for things that were out of his control. It drove me nuts and I wanted to slap her. He had his reasons for wanting to keep his past, his childhood a secret and to use that against him just made me dislike her even more.
